The story behind A.M.P.
Allison Mullis Preserve was a farm purchased by R.M. Allison, Sr. in 1942. He traveled from Clovis, New Mexico with his cattle and began what we now call A.M.P. Beef, corn, pecans, peanuts, wheat, cotton, and probably more have all been grown here. Everything from deer, bear, turkey, coyotes, wild hogs, quail, dove, ducks, squirrels, and rabbits can be hunted on this preserve. There is also a pond full of bream and bass, and the occasional alligator. Many children have grown into adults on this dirt.
My earliest memories were the sound of dogs barking at the barns. Followed by the random phone call about an escaped dog being found on someone else’s property. My grandfather, Dick Sr, in his youth trained bird dogs, as well as his father before him. As I began doing my own research on training bird dogs, I began to recall these memories. My aunt Anne, my father’s sister, has filled in the gaps with information about my grandfather’s trophies and awards for his work in training dogs. Things I had no prior knowledge of. You could say it was just in my blood and I didn’t even realize it.
In May of 2000 I married Daniel Mullis. He began assisting with the management of the timber on the farm in 2015. This included burning and thinning the trees at specific year marks. These activities and practices also benefited the wildlife tremendously. Something else that we have seen improve the quality of the land is putting into practice regenerative agriculture. Allowing cattle to rotate pastures and field courses has healed the land and restored wildlife populations. While being avid hunters Daniel and I decided, with Mr. Allison Jr.’s blessing, to start managing for a shooting preserve. Today we enjoy sharing these wonderful quail hunting experiences with others. We offer some great quail hunting behind great dogs with good friends. We love sharing a little piece of what God has blessed us with and hope you will join us in making lasting memories.
